Motherhood can hold so many things at once: love, responsibility, joy, uncertainty, and a calendar that seems to fill itself. In the middle of all that caring, your own interests can get quiet.

Wanting space for yourself does not make your love smaller. There can be room for your family and for the person you are still becoming.

Notice what feels like you

Think about something you enjoy without having to be useful to anyone else. Music in the kitchen. A book. Getting dressed in a way that feels good. A conversation that wanders beyond the logistics of the week.

You do not have to recover an earlier version of yourself. You can get to know who you are now, with everything motherhood has added and changed.

Let support be part of the picture

Making time can take practical conversations. Be specific about what would help: a shared task, a little protected time, or a person you can call without having to explain everything first.

Different seasons allow different amounts of space. A small pocket of time still counts.

Hold both with tenderness

Some days family will need more of you. Other days there may be a little more room for your own plans. You can adjust without turning each choice into a verdict on what kind of mother you are.

Your story keeps unfolding alongside the stories of the people you love. You get to have dreams here, too.
